ConcernsAbout thirty years ago I, Madeleine, Gabriel and the Professor, not to mention the mice, laboured mightily and made a good living for Peter and Oliver for nearly fourteen years. Now, after a lull of goodness knows how long, I have at last been awarded the accolade my genius deserves and, as a result, a process called 'merchandising' has caused the world to be infested with images and simulacra of my person and from that phenomenon some fairly large sums of money have arrived.
So, recently, my friends and I called a meeting and decided
that, allowing a fairly generous stipend for the survival of
Oliver and Peter, we would spend the money on something useful
to our audience and friends, the children. We therefore resolved
to contribute to the building of a hospice for children in Romania,
a country in which, as you may remember, the children had a raw
deal for many years.
However, the hospice will need to be furnished, equipped, maintained and staffed. Everything from cots to consultants will have to be bought (fortunately such things are cheap in Romania). So I
